In a rapidly changing world, many find themselves at a crossroads where it truly becomes a choice to stay stuck. I'd like to encourage you to explore avenues beyond your comfort zone, illuminating paths toward personal and professional growth ...

A choice to stay stuck, Rooted in familiar ground, Or take a different path

A choice to stay stuck, Rooted in familiar ground, Or take a different path

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where it feels like there's no way out? Perhaps you've been made redundant, or you're simply tired of your current job, but the thought of change overwhelms you. It's at moments like these that it becomes clear: it is always a choice to stay stuck.

We often cling to our familiar routines and environments
even when they no longer serve us well!

When faced with discomfort, you have an essential choice: you can either remain trapped in your current narrative or seek new possibilities and pathways. It is a choice to stay stuck when you focus solely on what is going wrong or what you lack, rather than envisioning what could be. Every setback also offers a unique opportunity for a fresh start, should you choose to embrace it.

For instance, if you've lost a job, it's natural to experience grief and anxiety. But what if you could reframe this situation as a chance to explore your transferable skills? Perhaps you have talents that haven't been fully realised in your current role? By taking the time to assess what you genuinely enjoy and what you bring to the table, you can redefine your career trajectory.

Consider the example of those business owners during the 2008 financial crisis who chose not to participate in the prevalent negativity. Their mindset was one of creativity and innovation rather than despair. They adopted solutions-driven thinking, which enabled them to discover off-the-beaten-path opportunities even in times of economic uncertainty.

And the same happened during the pandemic in 2020. Many businesses closed down on the government's orders, while others did so out of convenience. The ones that fought tooth and nail to remain open succeeded by implementing change in the form of strict health guidelines, working from home, and embracing new technologies.

Are you ready to approach your current
situation with that same tenacity?

Ultimately, the hardest step is often the first one: recognising that it is always a choice to stay stuck. The very act of stepping back and observing your situation without judgment can yield valuable insights.

It's essential to ask yourself: what would it take to move forward? Perhaps it's polishing your CV, preparing for interviews, or exploring entirely new sectors.

Take heart - there is life beyond your current confines. The world is rich with opportunities waiting for those willing to step out of their comfort zones. When you confront your fears and decide to act, you dismantle the barriers that hold you back. So, which will you choose? To stay stuck, or take the brave leap into the unknown?

The decision is yours, and your next chapter awaits!

Until next time ...

About Dave Cordle ...

Dave Cordle

I began my professional life training as a cartographer with the Directorate of Overseas Surveys, a department of the British government. I made maps of places such as Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Sudan and the British Virgin Islands. It was a fascinating time, being involved in planning the flights for aerial photography, interpreting the photographs and eventually producing the plates for the different layers of the final map.

It was during my latter years as a cartographer and my career in computing that I undertook bigger mountaineering expeditions to the Andes, the Himalayas, the Tien Shan and the Caucasus. At that time I also held various leadership roles in scouting. I coached and trained young people successfully leading them to develop themselves and embrace new experiences. So that’s where my passion comes from to help young people learn the strategies for success that I share with my business and career clients.

My journey in personal professional development and coaching has been amazing, and will continue to be so: it’s why I’m here, it’s my big passion. It’s what has informed my vision and mission.

However unlikely your dream might seem, if you keep taking steps towards it, even small steps, you may well just surprise yourself.
